RiD: Memories of Happier Times

"How long has it been?"

At first Bumblebee didn't understand the question. Then he looked back and saw the achingly wistful look in those old, old optics, and as he suddenly realized where they were standing, the answer occurred to him.

"Ten years, sir. Almost eleven."

More to himself than to Bumblebee, Optimus whispered, "And their lives are so brief."

"You used to come here, didn't you?" Bumblebee asked. "With-" he stopped himself before more painful memories could rise.

It had been far too long since he'd spoken to anyone in Unit E. There was too much risk here to involve them. If they knew where he was, the Council would find out one way or another. Still, as the younger Autobot turned to watch the sun rising at the edge of the canyon, he found himself missing old friends more than ever. His nearly inaudible keen was answered in kind by the Prime at his side.

Sorry about the angst. It started out fluffy when I was drawing it and then...I don't now. I just really want the humans from Prime to make an appearance in RID. If only to reassure me that they're alright.
